At the end of 2016, I read the book Mini Habits, Smaller Habits, Bigger Results. Written for the procrastinator in us, the book recommends creating small routines in your daily life that are easy to accomplish thereby overcoming the tendency to well, not do the things you want to be doing. For me, these habits are exercising, playing music, and creating something every day. So far, this seems to be working for me. Five minutes on the guitar usually ends up being fifteen. Exercising for twenty minutes typically turns into an hour.
In the mornings, I have succeeded at committing myself to doing a ten-minute pencil sketch. Sometimes this is really just ten minutes, other times if I like what’s happening, it will turn into thirty minutes and add colour. Many of these small sketches are now candidates for characters in larger works.
